'Man'

"In this painting I use the silhouette of a man as a symbol of power and might," confides Indian artist Honey Pandey. "I am comparing the might of the man with that of a brick wall." Mixing acrylic and oil paints, Pandey reveals cracks on the wall yet they do not appear on the man's darkened silhouette, suggesting humankind is mightier.

Honey Pandey

"Hi, my name is Honey Pandey and I was born October 20, 1977. My father was an army Major and was often posted in different stations, but since my mother was also working, I stayed with her in Delhi while my father traveled. I used to miss him when he was away, but now he is retired and running a small business.

"My passion for art began when I was still a child. In school, I'd participate in competitions and often won. My teachers saw my talent and always encouraged me. I painted a lot with watercolors. Butterflies always fascinated me – their rich hues are a thing of beauty. I always enjoyed playing with colors and being around them. My parents were not too happy seeing me so engrossed in painting but eventually, when they saw my creativity and talent, they encouraged me as well. In fact, my mother had an art teacher come to our house to teach me. It was so much fun.

"After completing high school, I chose art college instead of a regular school. So I enrolled in Triveni Kala Sangam and have been associated with them since 1996. I have learned so much from this institute under the guidance of Mr. Rameshwar Broota. For the last two years I have concentrated on abstracts and want to continue my journey into the realm of abstract art.”

Pandey has exhibited her work in a number of Indian venues.
