'Melody for Humanity'

"My painting alludes to the extinction of life on the planet," says Miguel Calderón as he explains his composition. "This is Mother Earth who plays a sweet tune to a fish, while water symbolizes the origin of our existence. That's why we should preserve, not destroy."

Miguel Calderon

Miguel Calderon Minchola hails from the coastal city of Trujillo, northern Peru, and was born on October 8, 1958. He has been dedicated to painting since 1985; he is a self-taught artist who has perfected and refined his art through the years and with experience.

Calderon describes his work as impassioned. His art is motivated by a desire to understand all that surrounds him. He dedicates part of his time to painting where he attempts to explain the decay of concepts and institutions. He also teaches his art in a small workshop called "El Mundo." His work has been exhibited throughout Peru and was awarded First Place at the Feria del Libro (Lima, 2001).

Calderon considers his greatest challenge to be to provide for his family and guarantee their success. "I would like to tell Novica customers that it is essential for the arts to prevail," says Calderon. "If we lose the sense of aestheticism, we lose all."
