'Inca Necropolis in the Sun'

German See Wu reinterprets the iconography of the ancient Chavin culture. Dividing the canvas into three chromatic areas, he recreates an Inca necropolis, burial ground of kings and commoners. Above, the sun illuminates a yellow sky. Just beneath, tombs are aligned along a narrow path while, at the bottom, the dead carry on their activities like the living on their own plane.

Titled "Necropolis Inca bajo el sol" in Spanish.

German See Wu Medina

Born in Piura in 1958, German See Wu Medina's paintings attest to and represent his regional surroundings as well as his homeland, which he expresses with passionate lucidity. His theme is based on telluric themes from northern Peru, including the traditions and customs of his region as well as those of ancestral cultures. He uses an intense array of hues with warm tones predominant and balances a gamut of ochre and sienna to bring harmony unto the piece.

"I've had an attachment to art since my adolescence. Before finishing my secondary studies I had already decided to study painting and drawing, so I enrolled in the Ignacio Merino School of Fine Arts in the city of Piura in 1971. I graduated as an art teacher and thus began the work of an instructor in several educational centers in the region, and also in the same art school where I studied.

"As an artist with academic training I am methodical in the development of my art, which doesn't mean that it is schematic. I consider that painting, like poetry, is not static material, but rather a fluid current that often escapes from the hands of the author. One feels impelled to transgress from the artistic canons carried by emotions.

"In my long career I have participated in collective exhibitions in Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Cajamarca, Arequipa, and Lima. Internationally I have participated in showings in Ecuador, Honduras, the United States, and Spain. Also, I have held five individual exhibitions at the national level.

"I have a lively interest in presenting my works through Novica, considering that international coverage is propitious for introducing the world to the culture of my country through time."
