"My name is Isares Honghin, or more simply, 'Ace.' I was born on March 19, 1980 in Payao, and I live with my parents - we're a real tight family. We all live together and have a caring relationship with our relatives. I studied construction for two years but didn't like that at all. That's when I finally decided to study art, because that's what I had in fact always loved. When I was a kid, I remember drawing and drawing all the time. It was already a passion, since I would draw everything that came to mind.
"I learned more than art though – I used to be a very moody and impulsive person, but as I learned more and more about the arts, something in me changed and I eventually became cool-headed. I finally graduated in 2004.
"My works are mostly wood prints. I use a process called 'woodcut' in which I slowly carve the shapes and images I want into wooden blocks. Then I apply colorful inks on the wood surface to print them on paper. I try to transform culture, artistry, strong impressions, imaginary thoughts, and all else that is abstract, into concrete forms via graceful and sliding lines. I draw inspiration from Thai culture and motifs, and adapt them according to my own nature and interpretation. I change them - I balance ideas, strokes weights and colors, to build another dimension. I show the beauty of art: sleek lines freely moving into empty space, arrangement of colors overlapping dimensions. Fantasy and imagination acquire shape, taking over emptiness with colors and lines. I call this 'feeling to image' concept. I plan to create works that represent feelings of acceptance.
"The lifestyle I have created for myself is one in which I can live peacefully - smoothly but continuously creating. The way I perceive life is… that whatever happens, life goes on. Sometimes it's going straight, sometimes it goes around in circles. But if you don't stop walking, someday you will finally reach your destination. The same goes with my goals: I wish everyone could see my artworks. It would make me proud and perhaps even make the viewers appreciative and happy. So I would like to thank Novica for giving me and many other artists, the huge opportunity to show our culture and artistic visions to the world."
