Josue Chauca

Born in 1988, Josue Chauca Laurente is one of Novica's youngest artists. He's had no formal training other than observing his father at work, for he is a renowned artist too. At the age of 12, Josue began to make his own masterpieces. "My brother used to leave his incomplete work lying about the house and I used to be terrified to finish it for him. Eventually one day I got the courage to finish one of his canvases, and I haven't stopped painting ever since. Obviously now I paint my own canvases."

Still in high school, Josue has already won several awards and diplomas; he is particularly proud of a diploma signed by his hometown's Mayor. He has also represented his school in several national competitions.

"I would say my work is neo-figurative; my inspiration comes from a deep desire to transmit what I feel inside of me. I would say my biggest challenge is to socialize with kids my age, who show no interest or have no knowledge of art.

"To Novica clients I would like to say that my desire is not simply to produce works of art to decorate walls; instead my true hope is to create works that are viewed as statements against the destruction of our precious global eco-system. Thank you my friends!"
