Edwin Leon Perez

"I was born in Tarma on March 11, 1971. From the age of eight I showed a talent for art. My teacher at the time taught us to draw and that was the beginning of my training. When I finished school, I moved to Lima to attend the Instituto de Bellas Artes and graduated in 1992. I feel very proud to have been able to perfect my art.

"For me, painting is the most important thing a person has inside. One should let it flow and carry it to the canvas by letting the brush move freely. I try to transmit a respect for life, beginning with woman. She should be valued as a wonderful element of life and not as a sexual object.

"I am a portraitist. I love to paint portraits. They are elements of life and its reality.

"My greatest challenge has been that of teaching, forming, and researching new alternatives in art." Perez's work has been exhibited in a number of venues throughout Peru.
