"My passion for art has always run through my veins in the most natural of ways. I have long been aware of what people say about my art. My family has always been a major source of encouragement, admiring my work, and giving me coloring pencils, paints, paintbrushes, books, prints, etc.

"When I was 13 years old, one of my aunts took me to a little art school where I painted my first oil on canvas. The theme was a street with an old house, and one of the teachers praised my work. He pointed out a couple of things I needed to work on, such as the use of perspective, which I improved through time and hard work.

"I studied Fine Arts when I was at UFRJ university, and graduated with a BA in painting. It was very important to me to seriously learn to paint, it made me realize that talent isn't enough, one must sweat a lot to achieve one's goals.

"After I graduated I got a job restoring works of art, but I couldn't identify with that type of work. I wanted to create, so I went to several art fairs where artists meet to sell their work. Being in contact with all these artists was gratifying, my work matured and I was able to free myself of some elitist concepts I had acquired through my studies.

"Today mainly I work with acrylics, and I chose flowers as a medium to express my ideas. Flowers help me whether to represent synchronized movements or not, sometimes as dancers and others, like the flowers they are. Flowers may seem well behaved, even sober, but the movements of their leaves take some of their seriousness away – at the end of the day, life is in need of smiles!

"I choose colors that reinforce happiness. The work I exhibit through Novica represents some ideas I have experienced. Others are yet to be experienced…"
