'The Unknown Lady'

Dressed in silks and brocades, a young woman is pensive. Her high forehead and fine clothing reveal her aristocrat origin. Drawing attention to her youthful face and body, abundant tresses are gathered at the back of her head and the lady carries a jar. 'The Unknown Lady'

Dressed in silks and brocades, a young woman is pensive. Her high forehead and fine clothing reveal her aristocrat origin. Drawing attention to her youthful face and body, abundant tresses are gathered at the back of her head and the lady carries a jar. Azorin takes his inspiration from Carlo Crivelli's 15th century portrait of Mary Magdalene, adapting the style to an original work he names "La dama desconocida" in Spanish.

Azorin has developed a demanding procedure to create the visual effects that characterizes his artwork. He paints the composition after delineating the images with carbon pencil, and to finish he applies lacquer and bronze leaf accents that create a smooth, high relief illusion.

Azorin

Mario Martín Themme Canrubí, whose artistic name is 'Azorin,' was born October 10, 1969. A self-taught artist, he worked in Jaime Rósan Valencia's restoration workshop and collaborated in the restoration of the church or convent of Saint Francis of Assisi.

He describes his work as figurative. He has dedicated himself to this art from the age of 15 and is still motivated by the search for beauty, trying to transmit it with the same feelings and emotions. Azorin's greatest challenge has been to make a way for himself in the fine arts.

"My paintings are aged and feature a crackled finish, a very special touch for me that I hope you will value as much as I do," he says.

Azorin has exhibited his work in a number of Peruvian venues.
