"I think that art and the beauty of paintings move people away from violence. So I'm happy I have the ability to paint because I've always had this longing in my heart to reveal the beauty of life on canvas."
"Hi, my name is Rosah Casanova and I was born in Rio in 1946. I always liked art and I graduated with a degree in music from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. I enjoyed painting but never had time for doing anything. I had a job and children, and it seemed I was always running against the clock.
"Due to an accident, I lost the sight in one eye and was enable to control the movements of my right arm. I had to stop working and found I had all the time I needed for painting. And so I began to paint.
"I get such pleasure from this art that, today, I can't imagine myself not painting. My inspiration can arise from anything – I see a photograph and from there I decide what to do. In every canvas I try to tell a story about the people that emerge from the painting.
"I think that art and the beauty of paintings move people away from violence. So I'm happy I have the ability to paint because I've always had this longing in my heart to reveal the beauty of life on canvas. I attempt to transmit what is happening inside me, in my soul.
"I hope you appreciate my paintings and the love that they convey."
