'Framed Desire' (2006)

Surreal in its sensations, this painting frames a nude in turquoise while eyes in the background gaze at her quiet beauty. "This painting depicts a woman who has numerous desires," Anita explains. "These could be desires of different kinds. Her nudity implies sexual desire; the horse suggests she could be wishing for power. The many eyes symbolize onlookers in society, something you cannot avoid."

"Hi friends. My name is Anita Patial Aggarwal but you can call me Anita. My painting is an expression of my thoughts. It mostly reflects my surroundings and experiences. Each one of my paintings takes its own course inside my mind and the result is always magnificent, thrilling and sometimes surprising since I never pre-conceive them.

"I have been fascinated by painting ever since I can remember. My childhood has been a whirlwind of staying in new and different places. My family traveled extensively to many places across the country and it was a wonderful experience.

"Though I graduated with a degree in science, I always had this keen interest in art, so I painted as a hobby. But my hobby turned into a profession in 2001.

"After my marriage, I again traveled to different places, this time to Russia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Mauritius and Indonesia. It was a fun experience to know and learn about the different cultures of each country.

"In 1995, I was fortunate to get guidance from an eminent artist, Mr. Vir Munshi. Then, while in Dhaka, I was able to work under Mr. Saiful Islam. I moved to Delhi in 2001 and joined Triveni Kala Sangam where I had the opportunity to work with two brilliant gurus, first Mr. Sanjay Roy, and now, Mr. Rameshwar Broota.

"Anything and everything inspires me to work – the surroundings, day-to-day affairs and nature. I am so excited to be associated with Novica. For me, any art form is an expression of the artist's mind and thoughts, and I am glad I am able to share my thoughts with you."
