Nyoman Wirdana

"My name is Nyoman Wirdana and I was born in the village of Tejakula in Bali on January 14, 1976. My father Nengah Senin and my mother Nyoman Ningsih are traditional Balinese farmers. When I was little they always took me to the rice field to help them with ordinary farmer's work. The time I spent at the rice field didn't limit my dream of becoming a painter. I often made drawings on the ground, floors, or walls.

"Just as many Javanese painters come to Bali to develop their painting ability, in January of 1996 I left Bali for Bogor, West Java to learn painting from Retno Tri Joko. I was back in Bali two years later in February of 1998. Apart from Retno Tri Joko, I also learned painting from Pranoto and several senior painters.

"Each time I paint I try to always be happy so I can enjoy my work and it will turn out good. However, painting is not merely a hobby for me but also a living. Hopefully Novica will be able to promote my paintings to the world through the Internet."

The artist has participated in several exhibitions throughout Bali.
