'Freedom'

The torso of a nude figure can be seen hurrying away from the broken ropes lying on the floor. Massive walls surround him as he flees, alone. This cryptic canvas expresses Dr. Ramandeep's thoughts on freedom. "It represents the concept of breaking free from all bindings and bondage in life," she explains. "The loosened ropes signify freedom while the man in the foreground represents each one of us."

Dr. Ramandeep

"Hi, friends. My name is Ramandeep but you can call me Raman. I was born in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh but soon our family moved to another town called Lucknow where I did my schooling and spent most of my childhood. I've had an interest in painting for a very long time… ever since I was a child. In school I took a summer course in painting and I enjoyed every bit of it. Somehow, I feel painting is within me and we are inseparable.

"In 1972, my family again moved, due to my father’s textile business. Here I studied for my degree in homeopathic medicine. Due to the vast extent of college courses, I couldn't give much time to my hobby. But I knew that one day I would be doing the thing I love to do.

"Well, I didn't get much time after graduation, either, because I started practicing medicine immediately after I completed my course. I was fortunate enough to work under a world-renowned homeopathy doctor named Jugal Kishore. With my busy professional schedule, it was becoming all the more difficult to pursue my hobby. However I never gave up. And finally, in 2000, I took up painting seriously, alongside my professional career.

"My painting always reflects my thoughts. I always try to convey a message through my canvases and this is the reason I want to work with realistic themes. I also love working on abstract themes but there is always a hidden meaning.

"My life inspires me – life is beautiful and everyone should enjoy every bit of it. For me, another source of inspiration is my father. He has always been there to encourage and support me. In one of my solo exhibitions on religious themes, my father really helped me to explore and understand the deeper meaning of religion and spirituality. It was a kind of spiritual awakening for me.

"I've had two solo shows, and have been with the art studio in Triveni since 2003. I am so glad to be associated with Novica. And I would really appreciate your feedback on my painting."
