'Keep Guns Away' (triptych, 2004)

Brilliant color and simplified shapes lighten the harsh message in this work by Made Agteus Widarta. Ravaged by war, babies wail, bodies bleed and a woman sobs. Primal red hosts the yellow blasts in the first of three paintings. The artist offers a solution in the middle canvas, where a gun drifts across flags of many nations. Born on August 20, 1977, Made Agteus Widarta's painting career began in 1990. Teaching himself, Widarta followed the lead of his emotions in elaborating his work. In 1992, he began to formally study the traditional style of Ubud painting at the SMSR. His interest and passion for art was only piqued more by his time at college, so he continued his studies on a university level at the STSI.

Now, Made Agteus Widarta experiments with ideas and colors, searching for his own distinct style. He is greatly influenced by ecological themes, painting flora and fauna that should be left unharmed by human destruction. Young Widarta has shown in his work in several exhibitions across the island of Bali.
