"In the Colégio Imaculada Conceição where I studied as a child, I liked drawing classes a lot. In 1945, I participated in a painting contest sponsored by the French Embassy, whose theme was "Day of Victory" for World War II. That was when I won my first prize in art. Although my dream when young was to study fine arts, I never did due to several factors. One of them was that I studied piano in the Conservatory of Music and was finishing the course. Afterward, I got married and I opted to stay home with my children.
"All my life I've always been interested in visiting museums, art exhibits and galleries. But it wasn't until 1993 that I decided to enroll in fine arts classes to improve my painting, which been just a hobby before. I had as teachers the masters Charles Watson, Carlomagno, Ricardo Maurício Gonçalves and Gustavo Schnoor; I also took a course in Impressionism and Cubism in the Casa de Cultura Álvaro Alvim. From the beginning I preferred a realistic style and, soon afterwards, surrealism. This last one allowed me more freedom to elaborate my own creations. With my works, I participated in the 2000 and 2001 editions of the book
Arte Carioca, and also in
A.B.D. - 57 anos de arte.
"Painting has the illusion of prolonging life, of making a single moment eternal. I go through life observing everything: forms, colors, physiognomies, happiness, movements... In pure painting I look for that which is not summarized in color and impact, but also light, forms and beauty. I also create
bauernmalerei paintings that take the art style of 17th century German farmers – roses and tulips in contrasting colors on wooden trays.
"I am always very careful in the choice of materials that I use in my works. I use terbim canvases and stretch them on top quality wood. The paints are imported oils like Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Grumbacher and Wilson. In my crafts, I use latex paint on wood or MDF.
"Novica was recommended to me by artist David da Costa and this has been a new experience in my career. I hope to meet the expectations, in the best possible way, of all the admirers of art in the world."
