Nestor Lopez graduated from the School of Fine Arts in 1970, and since then has participated in both individual and group exhibits in Peru and other Latin American countries, as well as receiving many awards and special honors for his work. He comes from a family of artists, all self-taught, who interpret the folklore and heritage of the Andes through their own unique media.
"Since I was a child, I have been in love with the Andean countryside, the glamour of its environment, and the harvest scenes in which my family and I participated. Now, my passion is to mold these enduring scenes. I drew them on wood or stone, and later in the earth, but I was saddened when the rain washed away my dreams. When I finished my secondary studies I left my family home and went to the capital city to study art. It was during my academic training, because I had to paint and study at the same time, that I learned how to survive in someone else's environment and find the tools to give my art its own identity. In addition to the traditional Andean scenes, I paint classical surrealism, stylized, but without distortion. I paint well in both artistic styles, but the presence of the Andes in my work is the balm that soothes my spirit and allows me to give a testimony of my time."
A persistent and eccentric interpreter of objects and existence, Nestor Lopez finds in the smallest things the most beautiful expression.
