Flor Pachas

Flor Pachas was born in 1971 in a town near Lima. Captivating with its deserts and vineyards, the region's natural beauty touched her artistic senses at an early age. Pachas was born to a family in which art was fluid, yet at the same time difficult. Each day she valued it more as she grew and came to know the colors of daily life, writing the imaginary soul of her deeply rooted land. "The history of our land lives in my children and husband, who circulate in my own being," she says.

In 1990, Pachas entered art school, specializing in painting, and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts Teaching in 1996. Apart from her painting, she writes short stories and poetry, as yet unpublished. "The semantic process is the beginning of my inspiration," she confides. "Next is the selection of the technique and its power over my lines and colors, where figures emerge. The order is instantaneous on the same canvas. With brushes and palette knife, they reveal the symbolic contours of my mythical dreams. Each work is a story that converges on the fascination of concepts created by this same process. The work and its conception, by way of a mythological enigma, spin life situations that liberate dream images into reflexive space. Thus every work is original, conceptualizing my origins based on real acts in history - they make each work a connotative compilation of our culture."

Pachas has participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Peru as well as internationally. First place winner in the Química Gamma 'Paisaje Urbano' ENSABAP (1996), she was chosen in the Iberoamericano Ategrus (Spain, 2002), the VII Salón de Pintura Huanuco (Peru, 2003), and took first prize in the Composicion de la Vida y Obra de Jorge Basadre (Lima, 2003). Her works were shown in Le Mireir des Matres' Bergues Geneup (Switzerland, 1997), Decor-Expo (Atlanta, 2001) and Expo New York World Fine Art (2002).
