'Mushrooms'

Sepia predominates in this beautiful monotype print by Paula Balderas. She confers a sense of magic on mushrooms that emerge from an indistinct and mysterious background. "To see them on a foggy morning, everything ethereal around them and only the mushrooms," the artist muses.

Titled "Hongos" in Spanish, the print is framed in pinewood.

Paula Balderas

"My profession is graphic design, learned in the university where I came into contact with materials and techniques that had always interested me. As a designer, I like to imagine I'm going to use what I design, thus imagination and intuition are creative tools to carry out a project that satisfies people's needs.

"Painting and drawing offer me the possibility of creating for no one. This is something intimate that comes from inside me. When a work is finished, I share it with the viewer without pretensions or promises. It all begins with specific moments; it's a process of introspection, searching and experimenting. Quick, desperate brushstrokes, secrets and thoughts. I summarize moments in life, that are played again many times, and when I finish a painting it encloses part of the past and part of the present. You'll find a story on the canvas.

"I graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 1999. My specialty was illustration and I prefer children's illustration. It was only in 2002 that I began to show others my passion for drawing."
