Alberto Ramos

Alberto Ramos Palacios was born on December 7, 1953; at the age of 11 years, he moved to the capital. Growing up, his plan was to study architecture, but due to economic problems he could not. Since he had been painting for some time and enjoyed it, he decided to study at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Lima. Feeling professors didn't encourage him, he considered leaving the program. But his best teachers advised against it due to his capacity and talent. Ramos then resolved to give it his best effort.

A painter since 1982, Ramos produces works of an ancestral character as he considers himself continuator of Andean aesthetics. "Naturally I seek a language of my own within my works," Ramos says. "In addition, I interpret the pre-Hispanic textile tradition and some of the Andean iconography." He prefers cheerful colors and applies them in accordance with their innate spirit. "I believe that painting is the dominion of color in every extension of the word," he affirms. "My works represent Andean man's feelings and the continuity of Peruvian art." His motivation derives from the cultural landscape as he strives to transmit the charm and mystery of life found in his homeland. His greatest challenge is to continue working until he achieves his dreams.

Ramos has participated in collective and solo exhibits in and outside Peru, receiving a number of awards and distinctions.
