Namastee, I am Kailash Chand and I come from a small town in Rajasthan, a beautiful and enchanting state that connects us to many of our ancient roots. It also hosts some of the most amazing forms of arts and crafts. Not to forget the mesmerizing monuments. Whenever I get time, I still love to stroll around the monuments. It gives me peace of mind.
"We were six siblings – three boys and three girls. My father was a construction worker and his earnings could just manage enough for us. I went to a government school and studied until the 10th standard but was unable to pursue further schooling. When I was in 9th standard, I learned the traditional form of painting called
Pichwai painting from a senior artist. I had a good hand in painting, so I thought I could earn my living through my talent. Slowly I started selling my paintings. People in the village normally do not buy paintings so I use to sell them to traders who would then go to the city and sell them. I did not have the resources to go out of town, so I'd sell them my paintings very cheaply.
"Later I extended my work to miniature paintings and wooden items. I made boxes and other products and executed paintings on them. These were decorative as well as useful, and people appreciated my work. Slowly I got in touch with people in the city and I started sending my work to Jaipur and Delhi. I also had the opportunity to exhibit my designs in the capital.
"I hope Novica customers will like and appreciate my work."
Miniature paintings are one of India's unique and legendary art forms, characterized by their beauty and finesse. Though originally small in size, the term applies to a style of painting that is rich in detail that is meticulously executed with delicate brushwork. Colors were once obtained from minerals, vegetables, precious stones, conch shells, silver and gold.
