"My name is Moza. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, and I am a self-taught artist. After working professionally for a few years as a banker, I began my career as a painter in 1992. At that time I developed a naive style of painting in which the morro [a steep hill], favelas [poor communities], and popular public parties formed some of my initial themes. My designs were simple during the first years of my painting career, and my compositions were densely packed with images of people and nature. Over time, however, I began to perfect my style, opening space in my compositions, playing with color, and infusing my work with comprehensive perspectives and forms.

"Today I work with themes related to the countryside, agriculture, cultivation, and harvesting. I particularly enjoy motifs of tropical fruit harvest, including that of bananas, coconuts, oranges, papayas, and cacau. My painting has always called the attention of art critics for its authenticity and originality, but the greatest acceptance yet of my work came at the Art Fair of Rio de Janeiro, where I received exposure that precipitated invitations to show in galleries and cultural centers. I have been showing since 1993, and I consider my most important shows to date to be those that were held at the Arte piú Arte Gallery in Milan, Italy, the Tesvikiye Oda’da Gallery in Istambul, Turkey, and the Langenthal Cultural Center in Switzerland."
