'Divine Ganesha I'

Sadhana honors Ganesha, the most beloved of Hindu deities, with her "Divine Ganesha" series. She captures the deity's jovial spirit with a bright palette of oil paints as she carefully details his presence. Lord Ganesha raises one of his hands with the "Om" sign tattooed on it to bless his people as he holds his spiritual weapons, an axe and a conch. With his fourth hand he holds a sweet dessert. Sadhana

"Hi, I'm Sadhana and I was born in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. I have always stayed connected with art. In school I took painting classes and even learned tabla [drums]. Somehow, I couldn't pursue these arts professionally since I got married very early. I was only 17. My husband was in the army and was posted in different parts of the country. With him, I had the opportunity to visit a lot of places in India and abroad.

"My husband was also posted to several hill stations and, during this time, I fell in love with nature. The longtime passion for painting that was within me blossomed. I used to sit in the garden and enjoy nature's gifts and put them into my canvases. It was great fun. While not painting, I use to do embroidery work as gifts for my family and friends.

"I have three children, one son and two daughters, who are all well settled. They used to tell me to do something to keep myself busy. They encouraged me to do something creative and this is how I started to take painting seriously. I joined an art school and I really love every bit of it. I feel like I have discovered something special within me. I love working on floral themes with bright colors. It gives me joy. In fact, children in my school call me 'Floral Aunt!'

"My husband is also always there to encourage me. I am really blessed with a wonderful family. I have exhibited my work in several galleries and have received a good response. I am happy to be associated with Novica. Novica gives me the inspiration to do more and makes me realize it's never too late to do something you love."
