"
Hola. ¿Qué tal?" We're Xochitl and Rafael. He studied communications and I majored in psychology. Fate brought us together in a school for cinema, which we both love. We were awarded a contract to film videos in the U.S., so we got married and moved there for a year. Our country doesn't have a lot of opportunities to work in this field, so when we returned to Mexico we opened a little arts and crafts shop to have an income.
"During Rafael's studies in special effects, he took courses in making models. These were very successful, and so we began to craft some of his designs as art objects. Our pieces received a prize in Madrid for their originality. Unfortunately, we couldn't attend, as we didn't have the funds for the trip, but this really motivated us to continue with the line we were developing.
"Our process varies according to the design. At first, we worked only in clay, sculpting the piece and casting a mold from it. We fire it and cover it in white as a background for the motifs we paint on it, using both oils and acrylics. Lately we've ventured into wood, which we cut to shape, sand and decorate. Blown glass, metal and textiles also form part of our new lines. Our designs are innovative and quite different from what you'll find elsewhere. They are decorative and cheerful. We craft them with our heart to reach your heart."
