Belmira Carvalho

"Olá, my name is Belmira Carvalho. I was born in Muriae, Minas Gerais, but I've lived in Rio de Janeiro since 1964.

"I first began writing stories for my sisters and I illustrated these stories. Later, with this passion in me, I began making paintings from time to time and began working with engravings in 1964.

"As soon as I arrived in Rio, I took an intensive course in general art, and there I won a scholarship to study engravings. That's how I became interested in this medium.

"After that course, I worked in art but I also followed other interests. I studied psychology too, both courses at the same time.

"Inspiration is something that arises from the unconscious, half dreamlike. It comes from the experiences of childhood when I lived on a farm. I also draw a lot of portraits that come from the unconscious, as I studied psychology.

"I understand my art as a search for something through a dialogue with the deepest part of my being, the search of my own interior and outward from there. In this search, I am moving in the direction my home, a home of the heart, of desire, of love, of intuition. "Thank you, Novica shoppers. I think you'll fulfill my creative work because I'm doing it for you."
