"In the mid-1980s I learned the technique of pyroengraving on leather. I did maps, drawings of animals, landscapes and whatever else the technique permitted. It was literally a trial by fire, because with the burning tool we cannot err. Its marks are permanent. I sold my works in the Copacabana art fair, and there I became interested in painting on canvas.

"With colors, I am practically self-taught. My experience drawing on leather gave me the encouragement to go on experimenting and perfecting my work. I found it easy to learn to work with acrylic, a difficult medium unlike oils, since it dries so much more quickly. I painted in the streets, on location to record a scene's atmosphere, and other times, I painted only for the pleasure of painting something free.

"My favorite themes are surreal ones. I much admire Salvador Dali and Flamingo. As I sold my work in art fairs on the street, I developed more commercial themes, such as as figures from Brazilian folklore and everyday scenes of Rio de Janeiro.

"I am an artist of the street. My exhibitions are daily ones on the sidewalks of Copacabana. To have my work on the Novica site is fascinating. The Internet opens fantastic possibilities of cultural exchange."
