"My name is Tanom Kongchan. I was born on October 8, 1970 in northeast Thailand. I grew up with two sisters in a family of farmers and studied sculpture in the university's School of Fine Art, where I graduated with a bachelor's degree. Although I studied sculpture, I also love painting because it allows me to express myself and execute a work faster than with sculpture.
"I worked in busy Bangkok for a year, before coming back to the natural environment of the north that I missed so much. I first worked as an interior decorator for a year. Then I became a guest teacher in the university's School of Sculpture and taught in other schools as well. Now I go places and create art freely. I like using watercolor and oil media. However I also sculpt special pieces for hotels, collectors, government, etc.
"I try and live a quiet life. I do my best not to harm, criticize or envy others. I am looking for and trying to give happiness. The most important and happiest time of my life occurred when my beloved wife gave birth to our son. I then understood my parents' love, the love for one's children. I wish to live happily and harmoniously, especially with my family, my son, my wife and nature.
"In my childhood, I often accompanied my parents to their work – the beauty of the many green and golden fields mesmerized me. I have always lived surrounded by nature anyway. Nature inspires me in my artistic works but it also has been influencing the shaping of my personality. I see in nature the biggest treasure one could be given. I especially love flowers, their intrinsic beauty, rich colors and overlapping petals.
"My artist friend Rungsak Dokbua [a Novica featured artist] introduced me to Novica. And I am glad he did, for it is a great occasion to present my work via the Internet. I hope people around the world who have a chance to visit this website will notice my works. If they do, I hope they will like what they see. Thank you, everyone, for your support. It is a big motivator to continue creating and developing works to my best."
Tanom has shown his work in prestigious galleries and exhibits throughout Thailand as well as in Nagoya, Japan (Watercolor Painting "Nature Group," 1998), and at the Hanoi Fine Arts University Friendship Cultural House, Hanoi and HCMC Art Gallery (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, 2001).
