"My childhood was not as nice as most children's. My parents divorced before I was born, so I am very grateful to have had my grandparents, who took care of me. During my third year of elementary school, I underwent an operation to remove a tumor.
"During my 6th year of elementary school, I became interested in painting, especially in traditional painting techniques, so I asked a friend to join me in learning more about it. I liked it so much, that I went on to study other forms of painting.
"In SMSR (a high school of fine art), I learned more about painting, especially modern styles. Everyday, when I returned from school in the afternoon, I would apprentice for an artist in Ubud in order to earn money for my school fee.
"In the beginning it was a challenge, and I had to work hard. Now I'm very proud with what I have achieved in life, and with my painting skills. My paintings are mostly on human life, animals, and nature.
"My goal is to become a successful artist, so I am continuing my artistic formation at ISI, a university of art in Jogja."
Suanda has been exhibiting his work since 2000 throughout Java and Bali.
