Putu Ardi Batuan

"Om swastiastu" [a Balinese greeting meaning "May God shower grace upon you."] Putu Ardi Batuan started painting at the age of seven. Through his childhood hobby, he has become an accomplished artist. Batuan focuses on themes such as religious ceremonies, processions, and Balinese figures. He believes that traditional Balinese customs are slowly fading away and hopes his work will remind people of their importance.

Batuan won prizes in several children's painting competitions. Senior painter Mohammed Harahap was impressed by Batuan's talent and took him as an apprentice. From 1996 to 1999, Batuan studied with Harahap and also learned from other senior painters. He has shown his work in collective and solo exhibits throughout Bali.

"I hope for a better future for art and cultural creativity in accordance with my hard work," the young artist says. "I greatly appreciate what Novica is doing to uplift world artists. My best wishes to everyone, all around the world."
