"As with the majority of artists, my awakening to art ocurred when I was quite young. At the age of about 14, I began to experiment with all kinds of materials. I didn't know what materials were appropriate to painting, as I was a poor child from the interior without access to many things. I embarked on my dream of being a painter, and nature was my first inspiration. Totally self-taught, my first challenge was to achieve the technical rigor of academic painters and I did so. I established myself as a landscape and seascape painter.
"With time, my challenge had been won and I started to feel an enormous disinterest in finishing the paintings I started. That was when I began to change my style. My landscapes took on subtler tones, freer brushstrokes – they began to appear less academic, more impressionistic. Parallel to this, I became interested in mystic themes. I questioned myself about the existence of a divinity. This changed my understanding of human existence.
"The challenge of the unknown and the search for a divine reality revealed things that are beyond my human limitations. Among them, the question of angels soon became a theme in my art. I do not possess, however, a conceptual vision regarding angels and religion. I have a very personal point of view on the mystery of these luminous beings.
"I feel realized as an artist because I have been able to create a style of my own. Today I can show the result of more than 38 years of this career to people in the entire world through Novica. Over the course of these years, I have exhibited my works mainly in Rio de Janeiro."
