'No Food, No Knowledge'

"The assimilation of knowledge is very difficult for a hungry person," says Mukaila Ayoade as he explains this original still life. "Before we can understand a book, we have to secure our basic needs." Painting with acrylics in pastel hues, Ayoade composes a pictorial with a powerful message.

Mukaila Ayoade

"My name is Mukaila Ayoade, born in the eastern part of Nigeria, I grew up in a home where my family participated in traditional religious and social activities. I became a student of Mysticism, where I learned a lot about symbols and the relationships between all the regions of the world.

"This experience made me appreciate more the African beliefs and tenets. Lots of stories were heard about spirits that cannot be seen. How do I make them visible? This question is what gave birth to my watercolor series, that is, the combination of geometric shapes to form a figure.

Ayoade's works have been exhibited throughout Nigeria and Ghana - most prominently in the International Arts Fair held in Ghana.
