Polo Cano

Born in Ancash province on March 23, 1965, Polo Cano was a mischievous little boy whose favorite classes were those where he could paint. He always used lots of colors. As a teen, he moved to the capital to study art at university level, and he also took courses at the prestigious School of Fine Arts.

Fascinated with the village of his birth, he describes his style as "Andean abstract," through which he has explored his cultural values since 2001. His work focuses on the identity and customs of the Peruvian highlands.

Cano has taught special courses organized by art galleries, and has exhibited his work throughout Peru as well as in Argentina and Spain. Yet one of his greatest challenges is the search for new ideas to transmit through his paintings.

"My art is a cultural and contemporary expression," he says. "It is also a part of my own life experiences."
