Budi Siswanto

"I was born in Yogyakarta. As most children in village, I love to draw. Every afternoon when I returned from school, my father – who is a teacher – brought me a piece of chalk, so I could practice drawing on the walls, the cupboard, even on the door. This memory is still fresh in my mind.

"I studied painting in the Fine Arts Department of a Central Java university. I started my painting career in 1999, the same year I decided to move to Bali. In my opinion, painting is a visual language to express ideas, dreams or even unreachable obsessions. The process is like taking a wonderful journey to find something while exploring jungles, climbing mountains, and crossing the oceans with the spirit of real adventurer. My paintings are daily notes that make me feel more comfortable, stronger and free of burdens. When people see my paintings it means that they read my notes. More precisely, they read me."

Siswanto has exhibited his work throughout Java and Bali.
