'Nude II' (2007)

Drawing her legs up and wrapping her arms around them, she sits and looks downward. Golden sunlight plays across her nude contours, adding its warmth to the heat of her body. "I like to look at clouds and imagine their many shapes. This concept is present in my work – the movement and what an image will look like when it changes to another shape in another time," the artist says.

"My name is Wechjittakorn Pornmula. I was born in 1975. I am the first child of three siblings and have one younger sister and one younger brother. My parents are farmers.

"I had a dream of becoming a good painter. Even though my parents are farmers, they all supported me to do artwork. So I studied as I wanted and I always do my best. If I am successful, I will give something back to my parents for their support.

"I've loved painting since I was young. I remember that when I was only four or five years old, my parents taught me how to draw an easy rabbit and coconut tree by using lines. At that time, it was difficult for me so I tried very hard to make it beautiful. The best reward was my parents' admiration. They told me it was beautiful. This motivated me to work hard to make another good drawing. I did not have paper or pencils when I was young, but I used the ground to be my paper and a stick as a pencil. When I finished it, I called someone to see how beautiful it was and sometime I had 'painting' competitions with friends.

"In 1994, I was confused about what I wanted to be. I decided to study accounting instead of art until I had to enter the university. But I felt like I wasn't myself. In 1997, I decided to study art at the Rajchapat Suandusit University in Bangkok. I worked and studied at the same time. I was tired but I also had fun.

"After I graduated, I worked for a company in Bangkok. But two years later in 2004, I quit my job and, since then, I've given all of my time to art. I now spend my time doing what I've loved since I was young.

"Thailand has a different culture and traditions in each region and with each religion. I am always interested in learning about the different cultures and traditions so that in the future I can tell my family about how similar or different they are from our culture.

"Because I am Buddhist, I had to be a monk to show my gratitude to my parents and I also had an opportunity to learn about the religion. According to most Thai Buddhists, if a man enters the monkhood before marriage, all the merit from being a monk will go to his parents. If he becomes a monk after marriage, all the merit will go to his wife. So I'm very happy that I had the opportunity to be a monk before getting married.

"I do love to travel. I think living in other countries is not only about travel but is also a chance to learn about the culture and traditions there. I've been in many countries with only my clothes and painting tools. It was an adventure. I had to find money to live by painting. It was a challenging and exciting life.

"I think when we find out what we love, we should try our best and work hard to be successful. I think success comes from within us so we can control our lives.

"Life is such a challenge – for me and for everyone. Leading my life and following my dreams will always be the most challenging task for me.

"I work so hard on my paintings. I try so hard and concentrate to create all of my works. And I'm so proud when I finished a painting that I tried so hard to create.

"Imagination is fundamental. I like to let my imagine run free from something I see. It doesn't matter what it is and how it is. I will always present the beautiful part of whatever I've seen. People are the slaves of beauty. No matter the material or the feeling, all my paintings are about beauty.

"I never plan a work before beginning it and I simply let it happen. My paintings are all sudden and spontaneous. I like to wait and see until it's finished. It's exciting when I create my work and I don't know how it will turn out.

"In the future, I would like my work and myself to be accepted.

"Novica is a good way for artists to present their work to many people from all over the world. I respect this.

"When we have to be far from civilization, we have to try more to follow other people. Art is the same. I know that I have to try my best to understand the real meaning of fine art in order to be a happy painter, art creator and art lover."
