"My art gallery has always been the public plaza. Since the 1980s when I began to paint I've been exhibiting my works in a street market, the traditional haven of artists and artisans in Rio de Janeiro.

"I come from an academic formation in painting, as I took courses at the Rio de Janeiro School of Fine Arts, the Brazilian School of Design, and the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts. Throughout all these years I have produced many works about expressionist and impressionist technique.

"I paint every afternoon, from Monday to Saturday. It is amazing how a painting is transformed according to how it is being made, without regards to rough drafts and pre-conceived ideas. The images are formed along with the feelings of the moment. The result is a sum of variables that cannot be controlled; this is the mystery of creation."

The work of Cris Marney has been exhibited throughout Brazil.
