Made Edi Sesana

"My name is Made Edi Sesana. I was born in Gianyar on March 13, 1976. In making paintings, I am motivated by the free expression of children. The shapes and colors just flow out of their imagination, expressing their emotion with no consideration of the object's real form, and result in a naïf and expressive style of painting. I have worked intensively on painting since I was in SMSR. Then I continued to STSI [college of art] in Denpasar where I was introduced by my lecturers to naturalist figures, a natural world that needed freedom in expressing ideas. In addition, I actively asked and learned from the senior painters.

"Until now I am still in the process of studying and searching for ideas, characters and styles in my painting. Social phenomena inspire me in creating mixed media on canvas. I do hope my painting gives a personal satisfaction to me and to other art lovers as work with high aesthetic value. I have been in an exhibition at Art Center Denpasar, Bali in 1997; at Padanggalak courtyard in Denpasar, Bali in 1999; a collective exhibition at Pengsong Gallery in Senggigi, West Lombok in 2000; and a collective exhibition at Beggar's Bush Bar and Restaurant in Ubud, Bali in 2001."
