The Peacock DanceIndian Gond Painting
"Though I have not had any formal training, it was not difficult for me take up this art. I have inherited it from my culture, and it feels great. I take pride in it."
Congratulations go to Vidushini! Her painting, "Tree of Life" (available through NOVICA) has been selected by Delhi University for the cover of their book, "Indian History and Culture."
"I was born in Kolkata in 1972 and brought up there. I come from Bihar, the state where Madhubani painting originated. I was born to a family of film distributors and grew up watching Hindi movies. I studied up to my tenth standard in Kolkata. Later my parents moved to Patna and this is where I continued my studies with a graduate and post graduate degree in chemistry. After finishing, I went into the teaching profession. When I got married I moved to Delhi, and now we are in Bangalore.
"My association with painting began not so long ago. Although I occasionally painted when I was a child, it was not with an intention to continue professionally. However I was much inspired by the Madhubani art that originated in my home state. I started to paint again after I had my first baby. I stopped teaching when he was born, since I needed time for my son. But at the same time, I wanted to do something that I could do from home. So I started painting. Initially, it was for decorating my home and making paintings for friends and relatives. Everyone liked my work and encouraged me to pursue it professionally.
"Though I have not had any formal training, it was not difficult for me take up this art. I have inherited it from my culture, and it feels great. I take pride in it. Right now I am concentrating on Madhubani paintings only, but one day I would definitely like to venture into different media and themes."

I have a Hindu Mermaid painting. It is charming and colorful and has joined my other folk art mermaids from places like Bali and Mexico. My best wishes to the artist, Vidushini!

I received my ""Flirting Peacocks"" saa paper book today and it's gorgeous in its design and artistry.
Vidushini, I love my Waterworld note cards! I was lucky to get the last box of those. Thank you so much for making smaller fish paintings for me. I love your ""Cheerful Fishes"" painting, but don't have room for that. I am framing the individual note cards and hanging them side by side. I do have a perfect spot in my office for those. I am giving the other set to my son for Christmas and he can decide how he wants his framed. I know he will cherish them, too. We both have fish aquariums. Blessings, Judy D - Lima, OH
I am thrilled to own a small bit of art from Vidushini. I got the last journal with the fish (Sea Flowers) - a Christmas gift for me from my freshwater fish (my pets always pick out the nicest things from Novica!). Once I have filled the journal with notes (yes, on my freshwater aquariums), I will frame the art on the cover. I just added the note cards to my Wish List. Hopefully, my ""fish"" will order those for me, too, for Christmas. Of course, I will frame four of the note cards - and give away the other four. I love the Madhubani style painting and Vidushini is my favorite Novica artist. Maybe one day, I will find a spot to hang a larger work? I have admired many of her paintings.

Vidushini is an exceptionally gifted artist who is reinventing the traditional form of Madhubani painting through her bright cheerful and contemporary designs...
I'm so glad you took up your painting talents again as my Surya the Sun journal is not only beautiful but practical too and goes with me everywhere even in the modern times we have with our mobile phones. Thanks for your talented art work.
