Hola! I'm Patricia Ventura. From childhood, the scents of art shops caught my attention and awakened a great interest in visiting museums and galleries. As the daughter of a graphic designer, the materials were always within my reach. When I finished high school, I began to paint in a tiny studio workshop two blocks from where I lived with my family. My parents supported me, and were always enthusiastic with the works I brought home after my studio sessions with
don Julián my teacher. I attended the workshop fulltime for two years while my parents saved enough money to send me to college.
"For reasons of my own, I finally decided to study graphic design. In May, 2002, I graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Americas in Puebla with a degree in graphic design. Despite this, my passion for fine arts continued, latent. During my years at the university, I attended many audit classes in painting and figure drawing.
"Ever since, I have collaborated with a number of design enterprises in Mexico City, developing international projects such as books, including
Aforismos y Epitafios by Bruno Neuman,
Mulli El Libro de los Moles by Patricia Quintana and
Miradas en el Tiempo by Michel Zabé. I've also worked as the head designer with the Galería Mexicana de Diseño, developing graphic identity and exhibit systems for their exhibitions.
"Since 1998, I have also worked on independent projects in painting, drawing and illustration. I find a source of inspiration in the most common things and everyday activities. The colors I use are brilliant and explosive, typical of the surroundings in my own life. A box of tools, a lighter, a heap of pencils, my sister sleeping – these are themes that inspire me to create a painting."
