Leontina

Born in Lima November 27, 1974, Leontina Ximena Monzón Brañes spends her life amid oils and paintbrushes. "I began my artistic career in Peru's National School of Fine Arts," she recalls. "My first works were drawings done in the Lima Art Museum and I've followed the path of art since 1993.

"My own feelings and life itself motivate me, and I try to transmit my experiences mixed with my states of mind. In a certain way, I try also to reflect the image of my wonderful country.

"My greatest challenge in life has been to continue with my career and to demonstrate to the world how marvelous art is and all that we can transmit through it. From the moment I stretch the canvas I step outside reality. I get into the process, beginning with the base coat and continuing with the application of color according to my drawing or design. This transports me in time and I permit my hands to move on their own to express all that cannot be said in words. Up until I apply a coat of sealer to the finished work, I travel in time and permit myself to express everything, interpreting each element in different ways but with one single feeling – my innermost self.

"I have exhibited my work on several occasions, in venues that include the Museo de la Nacion, the Britanico and the University of Lima."
