Villegas

"I'm Jorge Rafael Villegas Vasquez, from the province of Chiclayo. I was born in 1972, and my dad was a carpenter, so I learnt to draw and carve wood from him. For me, painting is the force of expression in every work. When I paint abstract themes, I am motivated by the combination of colors, everything that surrounds us. When my mood is upbeat, this is the principal source of my inspiration. I see everything and am able to manifest myself through my art.

"My painting constitutes a reflection of my creative possibilities. There exists in me an expressive force and natural instinct to compose, suggest and emblemize, making reality obvious at times and, other times, recurring to mannerist and pre-Hispanic figures, revaluating with them our ancestral roots.

"In my more recent works, I make visible the dominion of color and I give space to the vibrant notes that chromatically resolve the painting. In the same way, the forms and designs subtly charm the viewer."
