"Hi. I'm Eduardo Lazo Cantu and I was born in Monterrey, Mexico. I've found drawing easy ever since I was a young boy. I learned a lot from my mother, a lyrical painter. When I was still a child, my mother would give me paper and colors so that I could draw and paint together with her in the afternoon.
"In college, I studied architecture but eventually changed my major to business administration. At the same time, I took classes in drawing techniques, so my work has always been figurative. In 1980, I began dating a dear childhood friend, Gabriela, who happened to be an artist. Today she is my wife and we work together as a team. She has taught me techniques and color for my drawings, and we work very well together. My part as been to promote our work. At the same time, we teach and also take classes with a number of well-known contemporary artists. These include drawing (Saint Ansgor, Iowa, 1984, 1985) and painting pechniques (Grand Margis, Minnesota, 1985) as well as workshops and symposia throughout Mexico.
"I work in acrylic and mixed media, using different materials, depending on the effect I wish to create.
"I was fortunate to find my better half and complement our work together in a beautiful ambience. This has impelled us to move ahead and create new challenges for each of us, and at the same to support new artists with a small studio where we teach."
Eduardo Lazo's work has been widely exhibited throughout Mexico as well as in the Jacob Javitz Gallery (New York City, 2002), October Suites at Market Square (New York, 2002, 2003), the Henry B. González Convention Center (San Antonio), the World Trade Center and the Stephanie Word Gallery (Dallas), the Atlanta Market (Atlanta), August Tendence Messegelande (Frankfurt) and in Lisbon, Portugal, all in 2003. In 2004, he participated in Artexpo (New York, Atlanta) and the Miami International Decorative Show.
