Ida Bagus Nyoman Segara Yoga

"I was born in Bali on March 7, 1978," says Ida Bagus Nyoman Segara Yoga. He was given quite a long name by his parents - Segara meaning "ocean" and Yoga meaning "meditation." His parents expected him to be as strong as the ocean in facing life, and as wise as a yogi, a holy man who can differentiate between good and bad.

Segara Yoga is a born artist, his grandfather - an artist too - became his first and best teacher. He also learned from his uncle but it was really his grandfather who drew along Segara Yoga's painting carrier at an early age. Supported by his family, Segara Yoga graduated from SMSR (Art School), and continued his studies at STSI (Art University) to increase his knowledge about the world of art. As a Balinese, Segara Yoga's paintings are mostly inspired by the island's everyday life as well as Balinese religion and culture.

Segara Yoga was the first prize winner from all of Indonesia in 1995 and 1996 for a two posters he painted. His work has been exhibited in various renowned galleries and art centers throughout Bali and Jakarta, including the Hard Rock Cafe of Kuta (Bali, 1999).
