"Hi, I am Chitra, born and raised in a small town in the foothills of Nainital, right next to the famous Corbett National Park. Childhood was all about climbing trees, jungle treks, and numerous other adventures. I was initially tutored at home, and then I joined a local private school and finally graduated from DSB College, Nainital.
"I have an inborn flair for sketching. As far as I can remember, I was forever scribbling on the walls, on the margins of my notebooks, and everywhere else I could find. Growing up in a faraway place offered no outlet to artistic expression or training. Taking up painting as a profession was completely unheard of. It was considered just an indulgence.
"After marriage, I moved to Mumbai and joined evening classes at The J.J. School of Art, but before I could reach the painting stage, we moved out of country. A stay in Russia gave me the privilege to view classic masterpieces at Hermitage.
"Traveling and staying in many other countries was an enriching experience, but constant movement, children and home-making as a service wife took priority. However, I managed to get a one year Diploma in Graphic Design from South Delhi Polytechnic, in 1991.
"This time over, in Delhi again, it was my God-sent opportunity to join Triveni, an art institute, and resume my passion whole-heartedly.
"My paintings just happen to me. I play with acrylics on canvas, and then figures emerge and the painting starts taking shape. I love to experiment with different textures.
"I Currently under an eminent artist, Shri Rameshwar Broota. I am fascinated by the resilience of human nature, and a person's ability to express so many emotions. I feel honored and privileged to be associated with Novica. Selling through Novica will help me reach a wider base of art lovers, as they take care of the finer nuances of the commercial aspects of this profession. Joining Novica means leaving me free to pursue my passion and yes, I plan to continue painting until my fingers can hold the brush."
