'Desire V' (2007)

Colorful, shapeless bodies come together attracted by the force of desire in a painting by Thai artist Chart. From his "Desire" series, the composition is intended to convey the organic essence of desire, that which resides in all humans. 'Desire V' (2007)

Colorful, shapeless bodies come together attracted by the force of desire in a painting by Thai artist Chart. From his "Desire" series, the composition is intended to convey the organic essence of desire, that which resides in all humans. "Basically, people have an immense desire to preserve the human race and it is expressed through behaviors of love and yearning for others," explains Chart as he paints with oils and acrylics. "People of all ages and eras cannot escape from this intrinsic rule of nature. It is this desire of both sexes that has forced creation of endless fantasies and of beauty."

" Sawasdee krub, I'm Prakornpatara Janthakhaisorn, but everyone calls me by my nickname, Chart. I was born on 23 October 1972, and I have a younger sister. Our parents are agriculturists. My father is a keen observer of life and tried to solve his problems on his own. This is what he taught me, to try to solve my own problems before asking anyone for help, but he's always there by my side, until I solve a problem. He also taught me to do whatever I could, to do well.

"In that sense, I have come to be somewhat stubborn and will not give up. I like to excel in any field of art, I specialize in oil painting and during my free time I like to research other techniques on Internet.

"One of my dearest memories is of a childhood friend from Cambodia, who was very good at painting. Every evening I would ask him to teach me and our friends would bring round flowers for us to paint.

"Growing up, I liked to copy the cartoons on books. I entered and won art competitions at school, so I had no doubt I wanted to study art formally at university. I now hold a Master's degree in Graphic Art.

"I have exhibited my paintings throughout Thailand, including Chiang Mai, and Bangkok, as well as in Japan. I have also won several awards and medals.

"At present I teach students majoring in art at the same university where I studied. I feel my life is full as it is, and I don't feel a desire to travel, to go out at night, to drink nor do drugs.

"Nature is my muse. I study the shapes of flowers, their colors and textures, which I try to replicate on the canvas with oils or acrylics. My paintings are filled with color because this is what I like. I enjoy that which is beautiful.

"If I could, I would spend the whole day painting so I could refine and develop my own style and techniques. I would love to be able to exhibit my work twice a year.

"My father, uncle and grandfather have always supported my choice of becoming an artist. The greatest challenges I have encountered have been the social contrasts brought about the changes in my life, which include coming from the countryside and now holding a Master's degree.

"I heard about Novica from my teachers and friends. They said Novica had a good system and good management that would help promote my work, so I decided to contact them, because I would like to offer a portion of my imagination to people from around the world."
