Rachmat Saleh

"My name is Rachmat Saleh, but you may call me 'Saleh' for short. In the Javanese language, the word saleh means good. My parents gave me that name with the hope that I will be a good man with good behavior. I was born on September 2, 1974 in Denpasar, Bali province. I was born and grew up in the middle of a loving family. My family is everything to me - a place I learn how to make art works, especially painting, and a place I learn how to love.

"Wasting my time painting in my private room is what I'd rather do than going to a party. Sometimes, if I run out of inspiration, I go to the beach or somewhere else to refresh my mind.

"Personal experience, social, and political phenomena are the foundation of creating art works formed in my imagination. Playing with lines, brush strokes, and color in the naïf style is what I've done.

"I have been in exhibition in 1996 at Bali Cliff Hotel Resort in Jimbaran, Bali; in 1997 at the exhibition of 'Angkatan 96' at Art Center Denpasar, Bali; in 1999 at the exhibition of 'Biroseni dan Komunikasi' at Nusa Dua, Bali; in 2000 at the exhibition of 'Peksiminas XXXIII' at STSI Denpasar, Bali."
